Social Media Marketing 101, cont.
Tuesday, 19 January 2010 18:23

Last month I discussed the need for a plan when it comes to social media. I talked about Facebook and the overwhelming benefits to your business by joining and contributing to the community of well over 175 million users. But where do you start? You might have a fan page but don’t understand how to get people to “fan” you. Here are 4 tips on how to get the fans you seek:

1) PPC – Facebook allows for the similar type model as Google, where you can “Pay Per Click”. You create ads, select your demographic and pay when people click on your ad to go to your fan page.

2) Use your existing website, blog, enewsletter or traditional advertising to drive people to your fan page.

3) Go Viral. Create a contest to drive interest to your fan page.

4) Get involved. Use your fan page to create a community-focused purpose. People don’t care how much you know, till they know how much you care.

Facebook should be a powerful tool in your marketing arsenal. Don’t take my word for it, check out this fan page my company, Fat Atom (www.fatatom.com) created less than 3 months ago - http://bit.ly/7D2egM With over 19K fans, we are driving conversation and creating a community around a topic we all love….tanning!

Retargeting Strategies
Tuesday, 01 December 2009 18:15

How would you like a system that allows you to deliver a message to visitors after they have left your website? Your advertising will appear to them as they browse their favorite websites - from popular news sites, social networking sites to various blogs and information sites. These are not pop-up ads, but actual banner advertisements that clients would normally see as they visit various sites on the Internet; only instead of random ads being displayed, an ad targeted specifically to them will be shown.

Some of the over 250 great sites in our network include: MTV, The Weather Channel, Facebook, Amazon.com, Men’s Health, Fox News, Ebay, and You Tube.

So, why should you use retargeting?

- Relevant Content Placement + Dynamic Creative = Increased ROI (Return on Investment)
- ROI focus on conversions, not just impressions
- Campaigns are continually optimized towards reaching ROI goals
- Ability to update campaigns in real time
- Industry best analytics/reporting

Social Media Marketing 101
Tuesday, 01 December 2009 18:11
Let's all decide right now that we should not just jump on the social media bandwagon because we can, but because we have a plan. An easy and effective plan, i.e., one that you will actually implement and upkeep, is usually a good place to start. Let's discuss Facebook Fan Pages and how this can help you grow your business.

Facebook, for those of you stuck in 2003, is a place where you can go online, set up a profile (put stuff in about you) and then find friends with whom you went to elementary school and show them pictures of your pets, kids, trophy spouse, etc.

The Fan Page on Facebook allows, let's say, business owners, to set up a page about their business and then invite people to "become a fan" of that business. Usually at this point, some people are saying to themselves, "Why?". So let me tell you my...

Top Five Reasons for having a Facebook Fan Page:

  1. A Facebook Fan Page allows the approximately 175 million Facebook users to learn about your products and/ or services - free of charge.
  2. A Facebook Fan Page allows you to control the conversation about your business. It allows you to push relevant content to people who want to see it, even ask for it, free of charge.
  3. It is estimated for every Fan you have, 10 more people will be exposed to your messaging. 1=10, 10=100, 250=2500 - and yes, it is still free of charge.
  4. Facebook allows you to leverage your clients to help you get new clients by running clever promotions, giveaways or specials.
  5. When people "Fan" your Facebook Page, and your Facebook Page has a link to your site, you are building the incoming link traffic to your website. That helps your rankings with Google and other search engines.

Remember, before you run and start a Facebook Fan Page for your business, think about a plan first. Creating a marketing calendar that helps you plan events, set goals and manage to-do's is your first priority. No marketing, even when it is free, is good if you don't execute properly and Facebook is no different. Next month, read about how to advertise your Fan Page.

IAB BLOG: Social media finds its voice
Thursday, 12 November 2009 16:08

By removing anonymity social media has found its voice, argues Jack Wallington.

Online communities and sites with user generated content (UGC) have been an obsession of mine since the late 90’s ever since I discovered chat rooms, instant messenger and forums. My single greatest passion is being involved in and running online communities for people to chat and share ideas and information. UGC has since been morphed by marketers into ‘social media’, which, when you look beyond the jargon, is just a more advanced platform for UGC with one significant difference: the removal of anonymity behind usernames. In my youth mine was the wildly inappropriate “FatXena”...

Real-time search rivalry heats up
Monday, 09 November 2009 17:14

Twitter has signed deals to put messages sent via the microblogging service into the Microsoft and Google search indexes.

The deals will see messages, or tweets, show up in Bing and Google search results almost as soon as they show up on Twitter.

Microsoft has moved quickly to set up a stand-alone Twitter search page accessible via its Bing site.

Google said its Twitter search service would debut within the next few months.

What is "Email Rendering"?
Tuesday, 03 November 2009 19:47
It's caused us to stop buying stamps and to put down the phone, email is fast becoming the number one way people communicate with one another.

Sending your message to friends, family and colleagues is now cheaper, quicker and non-confrontational through email.  Sending an email is fool proof...right?  Wrong!  What if your message is not received the way you intended and you are not on the phone to explain "what you really meant" or how it "should really look"?

Fat Atom offers a service that assures its email customers their email message will be received as they intended regardless of what browser/email application the email is opened in.  Fat Atom checks the visual layout of each email before a campaign is deployed.  If the email's content or design is causing problems that will make it difficult for subscribers to read or will lead to delivery issues, Fat Atom is able to fix the formatting before the campaign's launch.

Termed "email rendering" this tool is invaluable to customers to ensure their message is properly received.  At Fat Atom our goal is to get your email read and our email rendering tool is one of the many ways we guarantee that your email campaign is a success.

Say goodbye to sticky notes, get organized and devote the attention necessary to each area of your life through the Remember the Milk list management program.  To sign up for your free account visit their website at www.rememberthemilk.com.
